2024 Year In Review
We started the year with a romantic winter formal at Wild Goose Creative! Then we held our annual Trans Women Who Brunch to celebrate the trans women of our community. Next up was our Camp POCATAG+ Healing Retreat where 14 campers made their way into the woods to find their zen. After that we held our annual Back-to-School Bash where we engaged 296 community members who received school supplies and backpacks, not to mention a day of fun and food thanks to our partnership with Hanif Abdurraqib. Finally we held a Mozaic Anniversary Event to celebrate the organization turning 8 years old. In between were tons of yoga nights, movie nights, game nights, and art nights full of fun. We also held several Self Defense Series Workshops to aid in our community’s safety, financial wellness workshops to help with financial literacy, and a voter registration drive before the election. It has been a whirlwind year, but we have centered community and connection through our events and programming. Our community couldn’t be stronger, and that is thanks to your participation. Onto our next year, stay tuned for more fun events.
Created for Us.
Run by Us.
Taking care of Us.
Our mission is to foster the success and well-being of the BIPOC transgender, gender-expansive, and nonbinary communities in Ohio. We aim to help folks thrive and sustain themselves through community building, education, and resource navigation. We offer a safer community space, clothing closet, and support to anyone who needs it.
We’re creating an all-genders-welcome community of support that centers and prioritizes the needs of trans people of color. Because only when we have the freedom to be ourselves, can we begin to take care of ourselves.
Mozaic is a project of Equitas Health.
Meet the Team
Meet our incredibly talented and dedicated team here at Mozaic.
J – Program Manager
J (they/he) is a Black, queer, nonbinary boi from Columbus, Ohio. They graduated from the Ohio State University with a bachelor’s in African American & African Studies, and Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies. J has a background in community organizing, formerly affiliated with groups like the International Socialist Organization and Black, Queer, and Intersectional Collective. They enjoy cooking, writing poetry, and watching a good drama series. J loves working within the community to push for better living conditions for marginalized groups, particularly Black trans folks. He is grateful for the work he is able to do at Mozaic, creating safer and fun spaces for trans folks to build community and thrive. He looks forward to expanding Mozaic’s services to include things like housing and nutritional assistance. J lives by the words of Assata Shakur: “It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love and support one another. We have nothing to lose but our chains.”
Quinn – Outreach Specialist
Quinn (he/him) is a Black, queer2 being. He survived college with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature. From there Quinn made a quick detour into the tech world before landing at Mozaic to work in the community. Quinn is a plant and cat dad. He enjoys crocheting, playing around with sound, and getting lost in a good book. He is thrilled to be working in and co-creating a space that is a safer haven for his fellow trans siblings. Passionate about food sovereignty and the empowerment of growing plants, he would like to expand Mozaic to have its own community garden. Quinn takes to heart the adage, “We take care of us.”
Asa – Outreach Specialist
Asa (they/them) is a queer, non-binary person originally from Pittsburgh, PA who moved to Columbus 5 years ago. They graduated from Otterbein University with a bachelor’s in Political Theory and Global Studies, with minors in Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies, Legal Studies, and Philosophy. They have found a passion for political advocacy and human rights work and are the most recent addition to the Mozaic family. They enjoy hiking, spending time with their three cats and partner, and baking pies. Asa has been loving this opportunity at Mozaic to connect with local community members and other organizations fighting for a similar cause. They hope to continue expanding Mozaic’s reach throughout Columbus and central Ohio with more advocacy and gender-affirming resources across the state. Asa is specifically passionate about the rights of the transgender and disabled communities, especially when it comes to accessing the right care providers and treatment plans that will set people on a road to success.
